MSc Cosmetic Science Students at Sensory Dimensions
MSc students visit Sensory Dimensions Reading

Integrated MSc Cosmetic Science at London College of Fashion (LCF) is a unique course, not only in the UK, but worldwide. It has evolved from the BSc Cosmetic Science, the first university degree dedicated to cosmetic industry, which was established in 2000.
Along with many industry-specific topics, the course teaches product evaluation, applied statistics and marketing research; which all ally very well with the scope covered by Sensory Dimensions.
On Tuesday 6th March 2018, a group of 15 MSc Cosmetic Science students and two staff members from London College of Fashion (LCF) attended a half-day workshop at Sensory Dimensions in Reading. Starting about 10 years ago, this annual visit to a leading sensory and consumer consultancy has become a traditional event in the course calendar.
This year, Professor Danka Tamburic, Product Evaluation unit leader at LCF, and Tracey Sanderson, Managing Director at Sensory Dimensions, have made an even more ambitious plan than usual for the students’ visit. The session, led by Dr. Claire Humphreys, included a short presentation followed by two workshops (sensory assessment of creams and a triangle test with hair tresses) and a discussion of the statistical results obtained. The workshops were ably and enthusiastically supported by Project Managers Zenia Jappinen and Amanda Kirkham.
The students and staff left with a sense of gratitude towards the experts who generously devoted their time and effort to the organisation of this event. Students’ feedback about the event was excellent, most claiming that the visit put everything they have learned into ‘real life’ business perspective. Some of them even declared their decision to focus on Sensory Science as their future career, so watch this space!
