Sierra Leone Update - Rory's Well

Alive and Well, Sierra Leone

Earlier this year, Pam Beyts and Amanda Talbot travelled to Sierra Leone to find out how our donations have been helping Alive & Well establish a well in the village of Jakama. We have been kept up-to-date with their progress and are pleased to write that the well is now complete and the villagers have a source of clean water.

Following the success of the well, we wanted to help the village further, so as a next step we have joined up with the charity Rory's Well. Rory's Well was set up by Tony and Karen Evans through Alive & Well to help the Pujehun District. Rory's Well plan to visit the district to gain an understanding of the villages, population, geography, politics, tradition and civil authorities so they can work with the communities to prioritise development in the future.

Our donations will help establish an agricultural programme in Jakama, including building a rice swamp and new grain store, and developing women's upland farming. This project aims to be implemented in the dry season (Nov-May) ready for harvest in the following wet season (June-Oct).

We are excited to be part of this next stage for the village and will have more updates later in the year.
